Raising kids .. with an iguana life lesson
I was talking with one of my friends today and listening to her recount some experiences in babysitting and child care when she was younger.
First story was of her iguana. She was explaining to me how cool it was to have an iguana. I was doubting her I must admit.
One day her son was questioning why it was that all his friends at school had dads and why didn’t he have a dad to talk about. He knew he did and she asked him if he wanted to call or when he wanted to see his dad. I don’t know anything about the father but the prospect of calling his dad didn’t sound as cool as what everyone was talking about in school.
He was bummed. Then his mom pointed out an important fact. ‘They all have dads’ she said but you have an iguana! How cool is that…
The next day he went to school and when the subject came up again he told everyone he had an iguana! The class was excited and the teacher asked his mother if the iguana could come to school. “Absolutely!” So the iguana went to school and he was the coolest boy in the school because sure enough, nobody else had an iguana!
I just thought it was a clever way to resolve an awkward situation!
Great answer to a common problem.
I thought so too – I was impressed with her creativity in that- thanks
